A Nobu restaurant employee died early Saturday after a 16-year-old driving a Range Rover crashed into his parked vehicle along Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, authorities said.

The crash was reported near 22600 Pacific Coast Highway, not far from the restaurant, just before 7 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Officials say the teenage boy was traveling east and struck a vehicle that was parked on the shoulder of the roadway.

Ryo Uchimiya arrived to the high-end Japanese restaurant early and was sleeping in the parked car at the time of the crash, the LASD said. He died from his injuries at the scene.

There were no signs of DUI by the driver, who stayed at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, according to authorities. It’s unclear what caused him to crash.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station at 818-878-1808.
