CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – A 20-year-old Massillon man arrested at a January murder scene has been sentenced to five years in prison on a gun conviction.
De Iveon Newman pleaded guilty to an ‘improperly discharging a firearm’ charge last week and was immediately sentenced.
He was arrested in late January as police investigated the shooting death of 20-year-old Ta’Shaun Smith of Massillon in one of the parking lots of the Skyline Terrace Apartments on Alan Page Drive SE.
Two men charged with murder and complicity to murder had their charges dropped when a session of the Stark County grand jury did not indict them.
20-year-old Kymani James of Massillon was previously sentenced to probation on a charge of ‘carrying a concealed weapon’, tied to the crime.
