Los Angeles County deputies fatally shot a man in Bellflower on Sunday afternoon after a woman was found dead inside a home in the area.
According to department officials, deputies responded to a call for a person in distress in the 95000 block of Maplewood Street at around 1 p.m. Upon arrival, they observed a woman lying face down through the window and entered to find her in a pool of blood.
Deputies said that while they began to make their way through the home, they came face to face with the suspect, who was allegedly armed with a gun. The exact circumstances leading up to the shooting were immediately disclosed, but deputies opened fire and killed the man.
On Monday, the LA County Medical Examiner's Office identified the suspect as 53-year-old Edgar Yballe and the victim as 89-year-old Aurora Yballe, whom LASD officials confirmed was Edgar Yballe's mother.
Detectives said that a handgun was recovered at the scene as evidence. They have not yet determined if Edgar Yballe fired any shots at deputies.
The nature of Aurora Yballe's injuries remains under investigation.
LASD officials said that all deputies were accounted for and unharmed after the shooting.
