PITTSBURGH (WISH) — The Colts lost to the Steelers, 34-22, and fall to 2-3 on the season.
The Colts had opportunities offensively, scoring on six drives (one touchdown and five field goals), but were not able to cash in on enough touchdowns in the red zone.
“We got to a better job,” Colts head coach Shane Steichen said. “I got to do a better job calling plays. We got to do a better job executing. Credit to Pittsburgh in those situations but we got to do a better job overall and get it cleaned up so we can score touchdowns down there.”
“We’ll go back and look at the film,” Colts quarterback Daniel Jones said. “I think, obviously that was a big factor in the game was not scoring touchdowns when we got down there and settling for field goals. We can’t afford to do that. We’ve been good in the red zone. I think that’s been a strength of ours, so have to go back and see where we fell short, where the opportunities were and how we can improve.”
“We have to go back to the drawing board and make sure we clean up our mistakes, things that we know we could’ve executed better on and just finding ways to make more plays, especially in the red zone,” Colts running back Jonathan Taylor said. “We got to score points in the red zone.”
Jones threw for 267 yards. He was 24-for-44 passing. Taylor rushed for 45 yards on 15 carries.
“We have to execute better as 11, because I feel like we’re capable of so much more than what we have been doing,” Colts guard Quenton Nelson said. “We’ve got to start fast and execute from the start, from the jump. Can’t dip your toe in the water. You got to be ready to go from play 1.”
Tyler Warren had seven catches for 83 yards and a rushing touchdown.
On defense, the Colts allowed two explosive play touchdowns to Steelers running back Jaylen Warren, one of which was an 80-yard receiving touchdown and the other being a 50-yard rushing touchdown.
“I mean obviously they had some explosives. We all got to be better on that,” Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner said. “You know, all 11. But obviously that’s not what we wanted to happen. Obviously. Yeah, we just have to be better.”
The Colts will look to bounce back next week at home against the Tennessee Titans. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 18.
