Two men were wounded Friday night when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire on a group outside a convenience store in north Houston, police said.

The Houston Police Department said the shooting occurred about 10:17 p.m. in the 13300 block of Northborough Drive when a white four-door sedan rolled down Rushcreek Drive and slowly passed the group gathered outside the store.

Investigators said the car carried at least four people and that gunfire from the vehicle struck two men standing nearby.

One man suffered a gunshot wound to the ankle and the other was hit in the leg. Their ages were believed to be 31 and 34, authorities said. Responding officers rendered first aid at the scene and applied tourniquets before both men were taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

HPD Lt. Pulido said detectives are reviewing the store’s surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses; one witness provided a description of the vehicle. Police said the shooting appears to have been targeted and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The department is continuing its investigation.
