At least one person was killed and 15 others were injured in weekend shootings across the city, according to Chicago police.
The victims ranged in age from 1 to 43.
Shootings from Friday
In the first shooting of the weekend, a man, 26, was standing near his vehicle at a business near the 7500 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue around 7 p.m. when a black sedan occupied by two unknown suspects approached the victim. One of them fired shots in the victim's direction.
CPD said the victim then entered his vehicle and drove away. However, the suspects followed the victim and continued shooting in the victim's direction while in traffic. The victim suffered gunshots to the back and to the knee and proceeded to strike a pole.
The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
The suspects fled the scene in the black sedan.
No other injuries were reported.
Later that evening, another man, 26, was walking near the 1800 block of West 45th Street around 11 p.m. and was approached by a group that police described as unknown males.
Someone from the group pulled out a gun and shot in the victim's direction.
The victim suffered a gunshot graze wound to the hand and knee.
The victim self-transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:
- At 12:03 a.m. in the 6400 block of South Mozart Street, CPD officers responded to a call of a person shot. Officers found a girl, 1, inside a residence who suffered a gunshot wound. She was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition. A person of interest was taken into custody by responding officers. Another person was taken into custody for trying to conceal the firearm, which was also recovered at the scene.
- At 2:15 a.m. in the 4600 block of North Broadway, a man, 39, was a passenger inside of a vehicle when he was approached by a vehicle with two suspects inside. One of them pulled out a gun and shot in the victim's direction. The victim was hit in the right elbow and self-transported to Illinois Masonic in good condition. No other injuries were reported.
- At 3:10 a.m., a man, 29, was standing outside in the 3700 block of West 13th Street when an unknown suspect, from a distance, opened fire in the victim's direction. The victim was hit in the right thigh and right calf by the gunfire and self-transported to Mt. Sinai in good condition. No other injuries were reported.
- At 1:52 p.m. in the 5200 block of North Rockwell Street, a man, 26, was on the sidewalk when he suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg by an unknown suspect. The victim was taken to Illinois Masonic in fair condition.
- At 3:23 p.m. in the 11400 block of South Morgan Street, a 32-year-old man self-transported to St. Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right hand and was later transferred to the University of Chicago in good condition. The victim was uncooperative in providing details to responding officers.
- At 3:28 p.m. in the 7000 block of S. Laflin Street, a man, 26, was in the basement of a residence when he suffered a gunshot wound to the left shoulder by an unknown suspect. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition.
- At 4:55 p.m., in the 100 block of East 114th Place, a man, 26, was inside a vehicle when an unknown man inside the same vehicle pulled out a handgun and fired shots. The victim was hit in the thigh area and was taken to Christ Hospital in fair condition.
- At 5 p.m. in the 500 block of East 104th Street, a man, 35, and a woman, 38, were inside a vehicle when they were approached by multiple unknown armed men who fired shots. The 35-year-old was hit in the arm. The 38-year-old was hit in the leg. Both were taken to Christ Hospital in good condition.
- At 10:14 p.m. in the 8200 block of South Whipple Street, a 23-year-old man was walking outside when a black sedan pulled alongside him. An unknown suspect inside fired shots before fleeing in an unknown direction. The victim was shot in the left leg and was taken to Christ Hospital in fair condition.
- At 11:53 p.m. in the 0-100 block of East of Pershing Road, a 36-year-old woman was standing outside when a group of suspects approached her. An argument turned into a fight when a suspect from within the group pulled a firearm and fired gunshots toward the victim, then fled in an unknown direction. The victim was shot in the stomach and was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
- At 11:40 p.m., a 32-year-old man self-transported to St. Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back in good condition. The exact location where the man was shot is unknown.
Shootings from Sunday
- At 12:22 a.m. in the 1700 block of West 43rd Street, a 37-year-old man was sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle that was traveling on 43rd St. when he heard multiple gunshots and felt pain. The victim suffered a graze wound to the head and the driver took the victim to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
- At 1:31 a.m. in the 8200 block of South Ada Street, a 43-year-old man was sitting inside his vehicle when he heard gunshots and felt pain. The victim suffered a graze wound to his face. He self-transported to Little Company of Mary Hospital in good condition.
